OPERATION HEALTHY DELTA

Operation Healthy Delta will offer no-cost medical, vision, and dental services in Caruthersville and Charleston September 13-22.

Two of the Bootheel counties face economic challenges on a level unrivaled in Missouri. Mississippi and Pemiscot Counties rank among the highest in percentage of adults with less than a high school diploma, highest in unemployment rates, highest percentage of single parent households, highest in poverty rates, lowest in median household incomes, and highest with children in free and reduced lunch programs. Many families simply do not have the means to have routine medical, dental and vision checkups. That's where Operation Healthy Delta steps in!

A military Innovative Readiness Training event coordinated by Delta Regional Authority, Operation Healthy Delta allows military reservists and guardsmen to practice in a deployment-like setting while bringing no-cost health services to our area. Members of the Air Force Reserves, Air Guard, and US Navy Reserves will set up clinics in Charleston and Caruthersville offering medical, vision, and dental services September 13-22. A large number of community resources will also be present to offer services, information, and education. In Caruthersville, Eastwood Methodist Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church (both on Ward Ave.) will host the event. In Charleston, First United Methodist Church on E. Marshall St. will be the site of the clinic. The clinics are open 8AM-4PM Mon-Saturday and noon – 5PM on Sunday. There are no income limits nor are you required to be a resident the county or state.

Medical services include physicals and health checks, lipid screening, and A1C screening. Dental services include checkups, fillings, and extractions. Vision services include vision exams, prescriptions, and single-vision glasses. Glasses will be manufactured by Navy technician and ready the day following the patient's exam. Additional services from local resources will be available onsite and referrals will be possible to still other sources. Appointments are not necessary as the clinic will operate on a first-come first-serve basis.

If you would like additional information about the services, if your organization would like to participate at the community resource fair, or you would like to volunteer, contact Paula Kinchen at the Portageville DAEOC Office at 573-379-3851 ext. 208 or email Ms. Kinchen at pkinchen@daeoc.com.
