LOCATION: SIKESTON HEAD START ADM OFFICE
POSITION: NUTRITION SPECIALIST
This position provides training and leadership for the development of an integrated and quality Nutrition Program in the Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS) Centers. The Nutrition Specialist is responsible to administer the USDA Food Program for the Child Services Branch. Other duties include but not limited to;
Reviews seasonal menus for the HS/EHS Programs to ensure they meet nutritional guidelines; Responsible for planning, coordination and training activities for the center staff in conjunction with Performance Standards; Plans seasonal menus for centers considering input of center staff, parents and the Health Specialist. Acts as Technical Advisor to Center Directors and Central Office Staff as necessary; Assists in scheduling the Health and Nutrition Advisory Committee in planning the Nutrition program; In conjunction with Component Specialists/Coordinators, Center Directors and Parents, identifies food related problems a child may have and secures from the child's Doctor, a written statement if a certain food must be withheld if a special diet is needed and conducts necessary follow-up; Provides at least four Parent Nutrition Classes yearly; Monitors center kitchens (at least 3 visits each year) to ensure that Federal, State and Local Health and Sanitation standards are met. Requisitions kitchen supplies and materials for new facilities.
Travel will be required within the six county service area.
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Nutrition from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training in Community Nutrition or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience and must have a driver’s license valid in Missouri, transportation and insurance.
