MALDEN ADULT LEARNING PROPOSAL The Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation (DAEOC) is partnering with local industry leaders, the City of Malden, Dunklin County, Bootheel Regional Planning Commission, and Southeast Workforce Development Board to develop and implement Automotive Technology and HVAC Installation, Maintenance, and Repair employment training programs. A request for  funding for the project is being submitted to the Economic Development Administration under their EDA Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Program. This program is designed to promote innovation, competitiveness, and regional economic growth through strategic investments and industry partnerships. Retrofitted space in an existing agency-owned and vacant 7,250 sq. ft. building located in Malden (Dunklin County) will become a state-of-the-art automotive and HVAC training center with multi-purpose rooms for classroom instruction, areas for hands-on skill-building, and space for the agency’s Community Outreach Services Unit. The trainings will prepare participants for high demand, living wage careers in both automotive technology and HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance close to home. The sectoral industry partnerships will ensure that the training programs meet local employer needs and support project participants as they secure and retain quality jobs consistent with the Good Jobs Principles as established by the U.S. Department of Labor. The project will expand, strengthen, and diversify DAEOC’s Adult Education and Job Training Center, prepare individuals to successfully complete an industry-related pre-apprenticeship and directly enter into the agency’s Registered Apprenticeship Program, other subsidized on-the-job training positions, or begin full-time employment. The successful completion of each training path will result in the achievement of certifications that meet industry standards and are recognized nationally as documentation of knowledge and skill level necessary to successfully perform job functions. During the 4-year period it is estimated that 50 individuals will complete training, 25 in Automotive Technology and 25 in HVAC Installation, Maintenance, and Repair).
