Who Qualifies for SkillUP?
SkillUP services are available at no cost to individuals who meet the following criteria:
Active SNAP Recipient
You currently receive Food Stamp (SNAP) benefits in the state of Missouri.
Age Requirement
You are 16 years of age or older.
Location & Residence
You must live in Missouri within DAEOC's Southeast Missouri service area (Scott, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Dunklin, and Stoddard counties).
Ready & Willing to Work
You are committed to completing a short-term training course, obtaining a certification, or finding employment.

Tuition Assistance
Covers tuition, required books, and testing fees for approved short-term training courses (up to program funding limits).
Transportation & Expense Support
Help with transportation costs and referrals to community resources for additional supportive services.
1-on-1 Career Support
Work 1-on-1 with a Specialist for initial resume building, credential updates upon completion, and direct job placement support.
Work Supplies & Attire
Funding assistance for required work uniforms, scrubs, safety shoes, and essential tools needed to complete training and start working.
How It Works (4 Simple Steps)
Fill out our quick online interest form. Our team will verify your information and check your SNAP eligibility (DCN verification).
Complete an initial goal assessment with a SkillUP Specialist and receive contact info for training providers to review program entry requirements.
Choose an eligible training program in healthcare, CDL, trades, or business. Programs must be WIOA-approved and 1 year or less in length.
Complete your training, update your resume with your new credential with 1-on-1 specialist support, and transition directly into employment.

Is the SkillUP program really 100% free?
Yes, SkillUP is a free program designed to help SNAP recipients pay for tuition and supportive services needed to complete job training. Please note that total funding assistance is subject to program cap limits per participant.
Will participating in SkillUP affect my Food Stamps (SNAP)?
No, participating in SkillUP will not affect your SNAP benefits. If you have specific questions about your case, you can also contact your local Department of Social Services (DSS) office.
What kind of training programs can I take?
SkillUP covers short-term certificate and training programs that are WIOA-approved and completed in 1 year or less (such as Healthcare, CDL Truck Driving, Skilled Trades, and Business Administration). Eligible training depends on your career interests, meeting course prerequisites, passing Labor Market Research, and having a clear path to employment upon completion.
What kind of extra help or support can I get?
SkillUP provides financial assistance for transportation and work supplies (uniforms, scrubs, safety shoes, and tools). For other needs like daycare, your Specialist will provide direct referrals to community partner resources.
How long does it take to hear back after submitting the form?
Interest forms for the SkillUP program will be answered in a timely manner.
